The way a gate is automated can depend on a variety of factors such as ground level, existing structures and the any specific requirements you may have. It could be swing or slide, large depending on the layout of the property. The automation system can be above or below ground, usually suited for different purposes. Swing gate motors tend to be above ground and are generally suitable for most properties. Sliding gate motors can be concealed below ground and adds an extra layer of security because it's inaccessible to intruders, however it does require extra room in the layout of the entrance and isn't always a suitable solution.

If your property has multiple entry points, it may be suggested that you install electric gates and access systems on each of the entry points. This is not always necessary and will ultimately depend on your requirements. For example, if you have young children, you may only want to install an electric driveway to allow ease of access for the children.
Alternatively, a driveway gate can allow for pedestrian access yet restrict vehicular access. You may choose to only open a single leaf of the swing gate, or only partially open your slide gate. This can be incorporated with your access control system, as well as controlling the length of time the gate is open for.
